Tata Sons board splits legal opinion over Chandrasekaran reappointment

Tata Sons' decision to grant N. Chandrasekaran a fresh five-year term has divided two of India's most eminent legal minds. Former Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud questioned the use of a casting vote by Harish Manwani to break a deadlock between Tata Trusts nominee directors Noel Tata and Venu Srinivasan. Harish Salve defended the vote as valid, while Noel Tata called the reappointment illegal.
