Kotak Urges Gold Import Reforms to Ease Current Account

Kotak Mahindra Bank founder Uday Kotak called for a committee to examine household gold demand, warning imports could reach $88-90 billion in FY27 as the current account deficit widens to about $60 billion. Speaking in Delhi, he said India ran a surplus excluding gold and urged fiscal consolidation and stronger domestic production.
