BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said Indian culture should not be reduced to religious practices or formal respect, arguing that civic responsibility and merit matter more. Speaking at the Moneycontrol Startup Conclave 2026 in Bengaluru, he said India has confused culture with religiosity, and that everyday behaviour like cleanliness and punctuality defines culture. He welcomed Gen Z's challenge to hierarchy based on age.
