The Jupiter-bound JUICE spacecraft flew past Earth on Sept. 28, gaining roughly 7,830 mph and a 20-degree trajectory shift. It came within 5,370 miles of Earth, the third gravity assist of its mission after lunar-Earth and Venus flybys. Scientists say the simpler flyby lets them point instruments at Earth and the moon.
