The US is deploying a third aircraft carrier strike group and about 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East near Iran, a US official told Al Jazeera. The USS Theodore Roosevelt left San Diego on Sunday, followed by the Makin Island Marine Expeditionary Unit with over 2,000 Marines. By late November, three carriers and two amphibious groups will be positioned near Iran, adding to roughly 50,000 US service members already there.
