IceCube Neutrino Observatory Creator Wins Nobel Physics Prize

Belgian-born physicist Prof Francis Halzen has won the Nobel Prize in Physics for leading the development of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole. The observatory uses a cubic kilometre of Antarctic ice fitted with light sensors to detect high-energy neutrinos, opening a new kind of astronomy that reveals violent cosmic processes beyond the Solar System.
