Francis Halzen has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for his decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos. The 82-year-old Belgian-American physicist at the University of Wisconsin–Madison led the international team behind the South Pole detector, which has opened a new era in astronomy.
