Hurricane Isaias has strengthened into the first Atlantic hurricane of the 2026 season, with 80mph winds and a minimum pressure of 975mb. It is expected to reach category 2 strength before making landfall on the northern Gulf coast on Friday evening, bringing 75-150mm of rain, possible flash flooding and life-threatening storm surge. Hurricane warnings are in effect.
