Strong El Nino could cause 450,000 heat deaths, study says

A University of Chicago Climate Impact Lab report projects more than 450,000 additional heat deaths from the unusually strong El Nino through February 2027. Global land temperatures could rise about 1.2C, with extremely hot days 44 percent more frequent. Poorer nations face the heaviest toll, led by Nigeria at 31,400 deaths and the Sahel at 66,800.
