Pope Leo XIV says he is 'proud to be an American' after voting in US midterms

Pope Leo XIV said Friday he was "proud to be an American and to exercise the right" to vote in US midterm elections that handed Congress to the Democrats, a repudiation of President Donald Trump. Speaking aboard the papal plane en route to Uruguay, the 71-year-old also credited God and his doctors for his recovery from lung cancer surgery three weeks ago.
