Pope Leo XIV landed in Montevideo on Friday, beginning a 12-day, three-nation South American tour less than a month after lung surgery. The 71-year-old pontiff said he feels "fairly good" and never doubted the trip would go ahead. He visits Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, with Uruguay's first papal visit since 1988.
