Paraguay Senate Impeaches President Santiago Pena Over Bank Collapse

Paraguay's Senate voted 44-1 on Friday to impeach President Santiago Pena over the collapse of Ueno Bank, which froze accounts for around three million people. Lawmakers stripped him of immunity despite his resignation offer a day earlier. Pena, who did not attend the trial, had held a stake in the bank's controlling group until last year. Advance payments to some depositors began Thursday.
